Cycling in Bangkok in July and August: heat, rain and what to expect

July and August are the two months when most of our guests arrive, largely because that is the Dutch and Belgian school holiday. They are also rainy season months. Those two facts scare people more than they should.

The rain is not what you think

Rainy season in Bangkok rarely means a grey day. It usually means a heavy shower for thirty to sixty minutes, often in the late afternoon, and then it clears. We carry ponchos, we know where to shelter, and we adjust the route if needed. Tours run 365 days a year.

Heat matters more than rain

• The Morning Tour starts at 08:00 and finishes at 12:00, before the worst heat.
• The City Tour at 09:00 is the popular compromise, with a Thai lunch in the middle.
• The Afternoon Tour at 13:00 is hotter but gives the best light for photos.
• Drink more than you think you need. Water is included.

What to bring

• Light clothing that dries quickly.
• Sunscreen and a cap.
• Shoes that stay on your feet, not loose flip-flops.
• A plastic bag or dry pouch for your phone.

Book a bit earlier in these months

July is our busiest month by a wide margin, and Monday and Tuesday are our busiest days. Wednesday and Sunday are usually the quietest. If your dates are fixed, book ahead; if you are flexible, there is almost always something available.
